U.S. Trucker’s Weather Briefing: November 3, 2025

National Overview – Mon, Nov 3, 2025

A wetter, unsettled pattern returns to the Pacific Northwest and far northern California, including high winds along the southwest Oregon coast this afternoon and evening. Warmer, drier conditions expand across the Plains. The Great Lakes and much of the East see lighter, scattered showers, with higher-elevation snow showers possible in the northern Appalachians late tonight into early Tuesday.

Pacific Northwest and Far Northern California

High-impact weather for coastal and valley corridors today. Expect increasing rain with high winds along the southwest Oregon coast this afternoon and evening. Rain lingers near the coast tonight, with heavier rain and renewed winds likely Tuesday into Wednesday.

  • Main routes: I-5 (Eugene–Portland–Seattle) and U.S. 101.
  • Impacts: Difficult driving for high-profile vehicles, ponding on roadways, pockets of debris, and reduced visibility near coastal headlands.
  • Dispatch notes: Allow extra time on north–south corridors, consider delays for light/empty or high-profile loads on exposed bridges and coastal stretches, and reduce speeds where water is pooling.

Southern High Plains (TX Panhandle, NW TX, eastern NM, western OK)

Warm, very dry, breezy downslope flow today brings elevated fire-weather concerns, with spotty critical periods possible. Record highs are possible in parts of the TX Panhandle Tuesday–Wednesday.

  • Main routes: I-40 (eastern NM–TX Panhandle), I-27 (Lubbock–Amarillo), U.S. 287, and portions of I-25 in NM.
  • Impacts: Rapid fire spread potential, low visibility in smoke, and strong crosswinds—especially hazardous for light or high-profile vehicles.
  • Dispatch notes: Avoid parking in dry grass, secure and check tarps/doors, be prepared for sudden visibility drops in smoke, and plan for heat impacts to drivers and equipment.

Mid-Atlantic into Southern New England

A coastal low passes offshore today–tonight, bringing periods of rain and wet roads along the I-95 corridor from the NC/VA Tidewater through NJ, Long Island, CT/RI, and into eastern MA.

  • Main routes: I-95 corridor and connecting urban arteries.
  • Impacts: Areas of ponding, reduced visibility in heavier showers, and slick ramps/bridges.
  • Dispatch notes: Expect slower urban travel; increase following distance, and watch for quick hydroplaning in heavier bursts of rain.

Additional Notes for the East

  • Great Lakes and broader East: Lighter, scattered showers—intermittent slowdowns likely.
  • Northern Appalachians: Higher-elevation snow showers may develop late tonight into early Tuesday; be alert for wet-to-slick transitions on mountain grades and bridges.

Safety Tip of the Day

Wind and water compound risk: reduce speed in gusty rain, avoid sudden lane changes near pooled water, and use extra caution on exposed bridges and coastal headlands. In dry, windy areas, do not park on or near vegetation and watch for smoke plumes that can rapidly lower visibility.
